  44. Approach: We explore the clear links

  46. We argue that transparency in the data

  56. Conclusion: Rigorous and systematic

  59. Studies that give an explicit account of the

  312. the clarity of data analysis in the doing and&#13;
  313. reporting of interview-based qualitative&#13;
  314. research.&#13;
  315. Approach: We explore the clear links&#13;
  316. between data analysis and evidence.&#13;
  317. We argue that transparency in the data&#13;
  318. analysis process is integral to determining&#13;
  319. the evidence that is generated. Data&#13;
  320. analysis must occur concurrently with&#13;
  321. data collection and comprises an ongoing&#13;
  322. process of ‘testing the fit’ between the&#13;
  323. data collected and analysis. We discuss&#13;
  324. four steps in the process of thematic data&#13;
  325. analysis: immersion, coding, categorising&#13;
  326. and generation of themes.&#13;
  327. Conclusion: Rigorous and systematic&#13;
  328. analysis of qualitative data is integral to&#13;
  329. the production of high-quality research.&#13;
  330. Studies that give an explicit account of the&#13;
  331. data analysis process provide insights into&#13;
  332. how conclusions are reached while studies&#13;
  333. that explain themes anchored to data and&#13;
  334. theory produce the strongest evidence.</p></div><table style="margin-bottom: 1em" cellpadding="3" class="not_ep_block" border="0"><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Item Type:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row">Article</td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Additional Information:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row">"The definitive version is available at www.blackwell-synergy.com"&#13;
